Overview
SunCare Assistant is a web-based application that combines real-time UV index and temperature data with an AI-powered (Gemini) skin protection recommendation system. Automated WhatsApp notifications deliver sunscreen advice, protective clothing suggestions, safe activity windows, and skincare education without requiring any extra app installation. Won 3rd Place at the National Innovation Technology, IST.CO (Information System Technology Competition), Malikussaleh University, 2025.
Challenges
Indonesia faces high UV exposure year-round, worsened by extreme heat in regions like Aceh (36.4°C in Banda Aceh, May 2025). Yet public awareness of skin protection remains low, and existing digital solutions are mostly foreign-language, generic, and require additional app installations.
Solution
Built a system integrating real-time weather data (Open-Meteo) and UV index with Gemini AI to generate personalized recommendations, delivered as automated WhatsApp notifications (Twilio API), leveraging a platform already familiar to Indonesian users without requiring a new app install.
